I am Lunaria Selene and here are some of my cosplays. Instead of a story, I’m sharing my advocacy.
When I was younger I was into cosplay, but since “colorism’ is a real issue in certain societies, many cosplayer wannabes (like me) are discouraged from doing it for fear of hearing less than appropriate comments because of my skin color and how it doesn’t fit a character I cosplay.
But instead of giving up, I realized I wanted to have a bigger, better purpose than just costume playing, editing and posting. I want to encourage others like me that we can cosplay as well as anyone else, regardless of skin color, height, or width, and cosplay any character we want, at anytime on our terms.
I believe cosplay is more than just dressing up as a character or being like everyone else. It is about individuality, and not just being limited to a certain color. It is art and may have different interpretations.
